Welcome!
This homepage is currently, quite evidently, still under construction.
My name is Lionel Merz, I am in my twenties (so I only have to update this line once every decade), and here are a few words about me:
I am curious about technology, by which I mean both "conventional" tech like Unix, the shell, development/programming, or the inner workings of 's macOS; and "modern" questions, such as whether LLMs can really bring us to AGI one day.
In 2025, I completed my Bachelor's of Science at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in Management and Technology, i.e. majoring in Business Administration with a minor in Computer Science.
My final thesis explored how data protections apply to commercially-offered LLMs within the EU (in particular data subject rights specifically under GDPR law), work for which I received a perfect 1.0 grade. Spoiler: The outcome is still (as of January 2026) undecided, but the way these models work might be breaking the law!
In my free time, I like to play hockey whenever the weather allows it at our local ice rink. I live just outside of Munich, south-west of the city district, together with my girlfriend.
